Introduction
The Mount Cotton Quarry Extension and Koala Habitat Restoration Project is a quarrying and
environmental rehabilitation project which encompasses:
- extension of the existing quarry at Mount Cotton
- protection of remnant vegetation and endangered species
- restoration of approximately 40 hectares of former livestock grazing land to koala habitat
Although it is standard practice within Barro Group Pty Ltd to incorporate the best available environmental management methodologies into our projects, this particular site is located on land designated as Koala Conservation Area.
A team of experienced consultants is involved in the design, assessment and environmental management of the project. The site, most of which has been previously cleared as a result of timber-getting, banana farming, dairying and grazing, provides a significant habitat and wildlife corridor. However with the dedication of quarry buffer land and the revegetation of cleared lands the habitat and wildlife linkages will be enhanced. The result will be a large, well-vegetated area ideal for the local flora and fauna – including koalas.
This website has been prepared as a resource for the Redland Bay community, to provide information about the project and demonstrate the consideration being taken for plants and animals at the site.
